"I was born in Devon, England. Since my secondary student days, I have travelled widely in Europe and elsewhere and have lived and taught in France. I have always been drawn towards the exotic, something that was reinforced by my tertiary studies at Aberdeen University, Scotland, where I graduated MA in French language and literature. My choice of a career in teaching fostered the wish, and indeed the necessity, for foreign travel. History is an abiding interest, and since I emigrated to Australia in 1991 I have undertaken a great deal of research into Australia's European history."
